Miss the enrollment deadline? Here’s what it means:
Most of your benefits will continue in 2026.
If you didn't submit any changes during Open Enrollment, your medical, dental, health savings account, supplemental AD&D insurance, and critical illness insurance will automatically roll over and continue at the same level of coverage.
You won't be enrolled in the flexible spending accounts.
The healthcare and dependent care FSAs require re-enrollment each year if you wish to participate. If you didn’t enroll, you won’t have an FSA for 2026.
Changing your benefits during the year.
The benefit elections you make during Open Enrollment must remain in place for the entire year unless you experience an IRS-defined qualifying life event. These events, such as marriage, divorce, loss of other coverage, or the adoption/birth of a child, allow you to make corresponding changes to your benefits within 30 days of the event. Learn more about mid-year benefit changes.
Review your other IU benefits.
Now that Open Enrollment is closed, you're encouraged to review your other benefits, including your retirement plans, long term disability insurance, and life insurance. These plans aren't included in Open Enrollment because you can enroll in them or make changes at any time. Your coverage under these plans will continue each year until you choose to update it.
