Dental plan for IU residents

We want to make sure you have access to the dental care you need during your residency. Your IU medical plan includes a comprehensive dental plan through Cigna at no cost to you.

Here’s how your dental plan works:

  • PPO network: You can choose any licensed dentist, but you’ll receive higher benefits when you visit a dentist in the Cigna Dental PPO network.
  • Out-of-network coverage: If you see a dentist outside the network, you’ll pay the dentist directly and then file a claim with Cigna for reimbursement.

Dental plan highlights

  • National network: Enjoy access to Cigna Dental’s nationwide PPO network.
  • Low deductible: Your annual deductible is $50 (or $150 for your family).
  • Annual benefit limit: You have an annual benefit limit of $500.
  • Preventive care: Two routine cleanings and exams are covered at 100% each calendar year.
  • Plan year: Your plan year starts on January 1st, and your deductibles and benefit limit reset annually on that date.
  • No cost to you: Your premiums are fully covered by the affiliated hospitals through the School of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education.
