When you are hired, you are automatically enrolled in either the IU Base Retirement Plan or Retirement & Savings Plan, depending on your status.

After you’re enrolled, you’ll have other steps to follow, such as setting up accounts, reviewing your investment options, and designating your beneficiaries.

Learn more about your retirement plan:

IU Retirement Plan

For academic appointees, exempt staff, and eligible non-exempt (PAO & PAU) staff.

IU Retirement and Savings Plan

For non-exempt staff (excluding PAO & PAU) or part-time employees with retirement.

Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF)

If you are an IU support or service staff member hired before July 1, 2013, you may be enrolled in the PERF retirement program. 

Am I an exempt or nonexempt employee?

Exempt employees are paid a salary and are not eligible for overtime.

Nonexempt employees are paid an hourly rate and are eligible for overtime.
