Student and Scholar Health Insurance

Indiana University offers health insurance plans for certain groups of students that are required to have coverage including international students and scholars, as well as students in the IU School of Medicine, IU School of Dentistry, IU School of Health and Human Sciences, IU School of Optometry, and the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. Graduate students with a Student Academic Appointment or Fellowship Award may also be eligible for IU-sponsored health coverage.

Students who are required to have coverage are automatically enrolled in the appropriate plan and notified about the coverage at the beginning of each semester of enrollment at IU. International Scholars will be contacted with information on how to enroll when they arrive on campus.

The university does not offer a plan that allows voluntary enrollment for students at this time, however some IU programs may require proof of insurance. Speak with your department if you are required to submit proof of coverage for enrollment in your specific program.
