New Non-Exempt Staff Employees
Overview of Benefits for Full-time (75 percent FTE and above) Employees
Medical, Prescription, and Vision Coverage
IU Medical Plans
IU offers a choice of medical plans to protect you and your family. Each offers comprehensive coverage including primary and specialist care, mental health, transplants, prescription drugs, vision care, and more.
IU Dental Plan
IU’s dental plan provides preventive, diagnostic, and restorative care, as well as orthodontia services for children.
Life, Disability, and Accident Insurance
Basic Group Life
As a benefit eligible employee, you will be automatically enrolled in Basic Life Insurance. This policy provides 2 times your annual base salary (up to $50,000) in the event of death. It also includes a spouse/child benefit, and pays an additional benefit in the event of death or dismemberment due to an accident. The university covers the entire cost of this plan.
Supplemental Life Insurance
Voluntary Supplemental Life Insurance is available for purchase for yourself in amounts ranging from 1 to 4 times your salary. You may also purchase additional coverage for your spouse and your children through age 25.
Long Term Disability
Voluntary LTD coverage offers income replacement if you become disabled due to an illness or accident. Options include a 90- or 180-day waiting period, and a Retirement Protection Benefit.
Supplemental AD&D Insurance
Voluntary Supplemental Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage provides a benefit in the event of death or dismemberment as a result of a covered accident. This benefit is in addition to the AD&D benefit automatically included with your IU-sponsored Basic Life Insurance.
Base Retirement Plan
IU Retirement & Savings Plan
You will be automatically enrolled in a 401(a) defined contribution plan called the IU Retirement & Savings Plan. IU makes all contributions to your account in an amount equal to 10% of your base wages each pay period, but you choose how to invest those funds. New employees are subject to a 3-year cliff-vesting requirement to be eligible for the funds in the account. Funds are forfeited unless you attain three years of IU employment in a retirement-eligible position.
Supplemental Retirement Plans
IU Tax Deferred Account (TDA)
IU 457(b) Retirement Plan
You can enhance your retirement savings through pre-tax or Roth after-tax contributions to one or both supplemental retirement plans. All newly eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the TDA plan at a 5% pre-tax contribution level, but you can change or waive your enrollment, or enroll in the IU 457(b) plan, at any time. You are fully vested in this plan upon enrollment.
Spending & Saving Accounts
Health Savings Account (HSA)
If you elect to participate in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), you are also eligible to elect an HSA. The HSA allows you to set aside pre-tax money from your paycheck to pay for eligible healthcare expenses for you, your spouse, and your tax dependents.
Tax Saver Benefit (TSB) Plan
The Tax Saver Benefit (TSB) Plan is a voluntary benefit that allows you to set aside pre-tax money from your paycheck to pay for eligible healthcare and/or dependent care expenses.
IU Tuition Benefit Plan
IU’s Tuition Benefit Plan provides a subsidy towards the tuition costs associated with attending IU or IU High School courses. Subsidies are available to you and your eligible spouse and dependent children.
Paid Time Off
Paid Time Off for Non-Exempt Staff
As a non-exempt staff employee you will earn 14 vacation days (19 days after six years of service), 12 sick days, and 9 paid holidays each year. Additional paid time is available for specific purposes such as bereavement, parental leave, military leave, court duty, volunteering, and more.
