IU Dental Plan
Full-time (75% FTE or greater) appointed academic and staff employees are eligible to enroll in the IU Dental Plan.
Members can receive dental care from any licensed dentist. However, you will receive a higher level of benefits when you visit a Total CIGNA PPO Network dentist. For a directory of providers, visit the Cigna website and click the Find a Doctor, Dentist, or Facility button.

Plan Basics
Coverage Summary
If you use a Total CIGNA PPO Network dentist:
- Two routine cleanings/exams per year covered at 100%
- Annual $25 deductible (not applied to preventive care)
- Other services covered at 50% up to the annual benefit limit
Annual Benefit Limit
With Cigna Dental WellnessPlus, your preventive care earns you higher coverage for the next year. Each covered member starts with an annual benefit limit of $1,200. When you and your covered family members each receive at least one preventive cleaning or exam per calendar year, your annual benefit limit increases by $100 the following year. This increase can continue yearly, allowing you to reach a maximum limit of $1,500 per member.
Additionally, for families with children needing orthodontic care, the IU Dental Plan covers child orthodontia up to a $1,000 lifetime limit per child.
Plan Features
Cigna Virtual Dental Care
Meet with a licensed dentist over video through Cigna’s Virtual Dental Care service to address urgent dental concerns such as pain, infection, swelling, and more. Visits cost just $45, which is less than the average claim costs for a routine consult with an in-network dentist.
Cigna Dental Oral Health Integration Program
The Cigna Dental Oral Health Integration program reimburses you for certain out-of-pocket dental costs used to treat gum disease and tooth decay. The program is for people with certain medical conditions that have been found to be associated with gum disease, such as heart disease, diabetes, maternity, and chronic kidney disease. There’s no additional cost for the program, and enrollment is voluntary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the Dental Care Plan.
Can I enroll in the IU Dental Care Plan without being enrolled in one of IU's medical plans?
Yes, eligible employees may elect dental coverage with or without electing medical coverage. This also means that eligible dependents who are not enrolled in medical coverage may be enrolled in dental coverage as long as the employee is enrolled.
Where can I find my ID Card?
Dental ID cards are not mailed. You can print and use this temporary ID card or register at MyCigna and print a customized card.
How do I find an in-network dentist?

- Visit https://www.cigna.com.

For each eligible dependent you add, you will need to provide:
