Enrollment or changes in the optional retirement plans can take place through Benefits Self Service at any time during your residency.
Ongoing enrollment changes
Changes in medical and dental plans, Personal Accident Insurance, and the Tax Saver Benefit Plan are limited to those life event changes allowed by the IRS, e.g., marriage, divorce, or birth of a baby. (Life event changes are initiated online at the Life Events and Benefits Changes website.)
Dependent documentation
If you are enrolling a dependent (spouse, or dependent child) who has never been covered under your IU-sponsored health plan, you must submit copies of supporting documentation.
Without documentation, dependent coverage will be canceled back to the initial date of coverage. Information regarding which dependents are eligible for coverage can be found online at hr.iu.edu/benefits/needknow.html.
After submitting your online benefit elections, information on which documents are required and where to submit them will be emailed to you. Contact IU Human Resources at or 812-856-1234 for help enrolling.
