Justified Excuses not to Obey a Reasonable Order
There are only two justifiable excuses for refusing to obey an order:
- The rule is believed to cause immediate physical danger.
- The rule is believed to violate a law.
In either case the employee must show that the belief is reasonable and that time does not exist to get management to correct the situation. It is managment's duty to correct or attempt to correct unsafe or illegal conditions.
