The Leading at IU Series is open to all employees university-wide—at any career level—who manage staff. The application period for the current session is now closed. Please email if you would like to be notified of the next Leading at IU Competency Development Series.
About this Series
The Leading at IU Series is a nine-month virtual development series rooted in the IU Staff Competencies. These competencies serve as a roadmap for how staff can maximize their potential at IU. Each month, we will introduce a specific leadership skill or behavior, the associated IU tools and resources, and provide opportunities to apply the learning.
Through this series, participants will:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the role and responsibility of a leader at IU and how to ensure their team members feel valued, supported, and motivated to be their best.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships rooted in trust, accountability, and collaboration.
- Recognize, support, and champion the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to their team and the IU community.
- Communicate effectively to ensure understanding while effectively and equitably handling conflict.
- Continuously manage performance with clear expectations and priorities, guidance and empowerment, coaching, and feedback.
- Access and use IU manager resources that support effective leadership and engagement.
