Community Responsibility Acknowledgement

Now more than ever, we all have an important responsibility to keep our IU community safe and healthy. We are all in this together. Discuss with your supervisor about how and when you may be returning to campus based on the Phased Re-entry Plan and Return to Campus Guide, then be sure to complete the Community Responsibility Acknowledgement (CRA) prior to returning.

To help protect the entire IU community and as advised by the Restart Report, all staff, faculty, temporary, and student employees are required to complete the CRA prior to physically returning to work on campus. The CRA allows you to confidentially request accommodations as needed to return to work on campus. The CRA is also available at one.iu.edu; employees who are unable to complete the online CRA should contact their HR representative for a paper version.

Why am I being asked to complete the CRA?

The CRA plays a critical role in keeping everyone in the IU community safe and healthy. Due to the nature of COVID-19, our individual actions affect not only our own well-being but also those of every other person we interact with or every person who uses the same spaces we use. A pandemic of a highly infectious disease like COVID-19 demands a community response. The CRA ensures employees are informed of—and commit to—best individual safety practices.

In addition, understanding that some employees have underlying conditions that make them at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19, the CRA gives employees another way to request accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The CRA does not replace individual conversations with your department for understanding how to plan for work in the fall. In addition to the CRA, please talk to your supervisor, department chair, or associate dean to work through care responsibilities for children, family members in your household who are medically fragile, or other life situations that might play a role in your work this fall.

If you do not, you will not be permitted to work on campus, or will be sent home if you have already been working on campus.

I am in a high-risk group for COVID-19. Do I use the CRA to request a health accommodation? updated 7/2

If you wish to request a job-related accommodation related to COVID-19 high risk categories as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), you may start the process by accessing the Community Responsibility Acknowledgement and select the option of requesting an additional ADA accommodation from Indiana University due to an underlying condition. You will then be connected to your campus accommodation specialist who will follow-up directly and send an accommodation request form where you can confidentially request an ADA accommodation as needed.

Who will have access to the information submitted via the CRA, including if I requested an accommodation?

Department HR representatives in your unit will have access to information about who has completed the CRA, but access to the response (including requests for ADA accommodations) is tightly restricted to only those employees with a need to know, such as campus ADA specialists.
