Plan Changes for 2021

During this time of unprecedented change, the university continues to take important measures to support IU employees and their families. This includes working to ensure that there are only minimal changes to employee benefits in 2021. The list below highlights plan changes only―for additional plan details, visit the 2021 plan summaries page.

All Medical Plans

  • All medical plan members will be issued new ID cards. ID numbers will remain the same.
  • There will be an overall 6% increase in employee contributions across all salary bands and plans. Review the 2021 premiums.

Anthem PPO HDHP

  • In-Network: The deductible will increase to $1,700 for employee-only and $3,400 for all other coverage levels. The out-of-pocket maximum will increase to $3,400 for employee-only and $6,800 for all other coverage levels.
  • Out-of-Network: The deductible will increase to $3,400 for employee-only and $6,800 for all other coverage levels. The out-of-pocket maximum will increase to $6,800 for employee-only and $13,600 for all other coverage levels.

IU Health HDHP

  • In-Network: The deductible will increase to $2,700 for employee-only coverage and $5,400 for all other coverage levels. The out-of-pocket maximum will increase to $3,400 for employee-only coverage and $6,800 for all other coverage levels.

Anthem PPO $500 Deductible

  • In-Network: The out-of-pocket maximum for in-network prescriptions will increase to $6,150 for employee-only coverage and $9,900 for all other coverage levels.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

  • The annual IRS contribution maximums will increase to $3,600 for employee-only coverage and $7,200 for all other coverage levels.
  • There are no changes to the university’s contribution to the HSA in 2021.

Tax Saver Benefit (TSB) Plan

  • TSB Healthcare Spending Account: The IRS maximum limit will increase to $2,750. Up to $550 can roll over to the following year.
  • TSB Dependent Care Spending Account (updated 11/5/2020): Beginning with the 2020 plan year, a 2 ½ month long grace period has been added to the end of the plan year to give participants additional time to incur eligible expenses. This means participants will have a total of 14 ½ months each year (January 1 – March 15 of the following year) to utilize the funds in their account. See the Grace Period FAQ for details.
